What starts out as a request for one standby EMT often turns into a larger reflection on how to ensure the safety and security of your guests. We’ve seen it in movies and TV shows and have heard it’s important to know CPR, but ask yourself: “Am I prepared to respond in an emergency?” How many people in your social circles, workplace, or school would immediately recognize a situation and step up to perform CPR within seconds? For many of us, it’s easy to think someone else is trained and would do it!

Unfortunately, food poisoning tends to occur in places where many people are served meals together – like potlucks, big family dinners, catered events and residence halls. Knowing the basics of food safety can help keep you healthy and ready to enjoy the holidays.

Thoroughly wash hands, surfaces and utensils with soap and warm water before and after handling your turkey. Use disinfectant wipes or spray on surfaces that may come into contact with food. Don’t use the same dishes or utensils for cooked food that were used with your raw turkey until they have been washed with soap and water.
